Avian infectious rhinitis is an acute respiratory disease. The morbidity rate is high, and the disease may occur throughout the year.

01 Transmission route and source of infection

●The disease is mainly transmitted by the excrement of the respiratory tract and digestive tract of sick chickens. Sick chickens (especially chickens with chronic diseases) and recessive chickens are the main sources of infection. The pathogenic bacteria they excrete are spread through air, dust, drinking water, feed and so on.
●Drinking water contaminated by pathogenic bacteria is often the main reason for the disease in chickens infected for the first time.

02 Clinical symptoms

In the early stage, the feed intake of the chickens decreased, and some chickens showed tears, tear bubbles gathered in the eye sockets, sneezing, and thin mucus flowing from the nostrils. As the course of the disease prolonged, the sinuses on one or both sides were swollen, the eyelids were swollen, and the nostrils flowed with viscous secretions. After drying, they formed yellow pus, with an unpleasant odor and difficulty breathing. In the later stage, diarrhea occurred, pulling yellow-green and thin manure, and the egg production rate decreased by about 20%.

03 Pathological changes

●Mainly the face, eyelids, and meat beard are obviously edema. The nasal cavity and sinus mucosa showed acute catarrhal inflammation, congestion and swelling, and a large amount of mucus was covered on the surface. There were clots of exudate in the sinuses, which later became necrotic.
●When conjunctivitis occurs, the conjunctiva is congested and swollen, and there is also necrosis inside, which can cause blindness in the eyes.

04 How do you treat infectious coryza in chickens?

Because coryza is caused by bacteria, antibiotics can be used to treat a flock. It is important to follow the labels on any medication. Although antibiotics can be effective in reducing clinical signs of the disease, they do not eliminate the bacteria from carriers.

05 How do you prevent infectious rhinitis in chickens?

●Vaccination
In addition to the use of drugs for the prevention and treatment of chicken diseases, vaccines are also required for epidemic prevention or emergency vaccination. Organized and planned immunization is one of the main measures to prevent and control infectious poultry diseases. In certain infectious disease prevention and control measures, immunization plays a more critical role.
●Strengthen feeding management
Reduce the stocking density and improve the ventilation conditions of the chicken house. Do a good job of disinfection and disinfect the inside and outside of the chicken house regularly to reduce the spread of germs. Supply sufficient nutrients to the flock.
