The concept of premix
Premix is the abbreviation of additive premixed feed, which is a combination of various trace components (including various trace mineral elements, various vitamins, synthetic amino acids, certain drugs and other additives) and diluents or carriers as required.
The intermediate feed product made after uniform mixing is the core part of the full-price compound feed.
At present, 5% compound premix for laying hens is the main product on the market, which needs to be mixed with protein, energy feed and stone powder before feeding. Because of the small proportion of premixes added, the requirements for uniformity are very high when mixing with protein and energy feeds.
At the same time, farmers lack professional knowledge and testing equipment when purchasing protein, energy feeds and stone powder, resulting in feed for laying hens. The finished product has poor stability, unbalanced nutrition or excessive toxins, and eventually the laying hens have problems such as diarrhea, feather loss, decreased production performance, and poor eggshell color and quality.

Common problems with feeding premix to laying hens
1.The color of the eggshell becomes lighter.
And the quality stability and nutritional balance of the feed processed by the premix in the farm cannot be guaranteed, and the intestinal health and anti-stress ability of the laying hen will be affected, thereby reducing the pigmentation. Therefore, the eggshell color of the eggs produced is lighter than that fed with full-price compound feed.
2.The quality of eggshell decreases.
The efficiency of calcium absorption and deposition of laying hens decreases in the later stage of laying, and the quality of eggshell decreases with the increase of age, which is more obvious when using premix, because farmers do not pay much attention to the content of stone powder. The calcium content in the stone powder is low, and the calcium in the diet is difficult to meet the needs of laying hens for egg production, resulting in an increase in the rate of soft-preserved eggs and broken eggs.

3.Diarrhea occurs in laying hens.
When using premix, more soybean meal and stone powder are usually added. The potassium ion concentration in soybean meal is high, which is easy to cause the imbalance of intestinal osmotic pressure and cause watery stools. Too high magnesium ion content in the stone powder will also lead to diarrhea in laying hens.
4.Feather shedding phenomenon.
When the gut is unhealthy, the digestion and absorption efficiency of nutrients will decrease, and the amino acids ingested by the body may be difficult to meet the needs of feather growth. The methionine added in the premix is insufficient, and the environment or disease stress leads to egg production. The physiological function of chickens is difficult to maintain normally, which will cause the phenomenon of feather shedding.
Countermeasures
Ensure the quality of the vertical mixer. It is required to mix the feed with high uniformity, purchase equipment with a small coefficient of variation as much as possible, and determine the appropriate mixing time. Every time the farm uses the premix to process the finished feed, do not arbitrarily. Change the mixing time to avoid equipment and human factors causing unbalanced feed nutrients for laying hens.

feed silo
Buy quality corn, soybean meal and stone flour.
Ensure the accuracy of material weighing. The weighing equipment should be calibrated regularly and produced according to the formula recommended by the manufacturer to avoid the nutritional imbalance of the finished feed caused by inaccurate weighing and incorrect formula.
Do a good job of feeding and management. The details of biosecurity, ventilation, temperature, humidity, etc. are also very important to ensure that laying hens are produced in a safe and comfortable environment.
Use functional products. Add high-quality dietary fiber, organic trace elements, probiotics, methionine and phytase, which can improve the color and quality of eggshells, improve the degree of stool molding, and reduce feather loss.
