Project Highlights
As a purchasing manager for a farm in Mauritius with many years of experience, I am acutely aware of the challenges of operating a poultry farm in this island nation: high feed import costs, a humid and unpredictable tropical climate, and stringent biosecurity requirements.
When we decided to launch this new project with a capacity of 56,000 birds, my core objective was very clear: to achieve optimal feed conversion ratio (FCR) control through automation and minimize reliance on manual labor. After extensive research, we ultimately chose Retech’s chain-feed broiler system. Now that the project is running smoothly, I’d like to share my honest experience from this “cross-border procurement.”
Why choose Retech’s chain-feed broiler system?
During the selection phase, we primarily compared tray feeding and chain feeding. Our final choice of the Retech chain system was based on four main points:
1. Low feed waste. Feed is expensive in Mauritius, and every gram wasted is a profit margin. Chain feeding allows for precise control of feed placement, ensuring even feeding and reducing spillage.
2. Fast and uniform distribution. During hot seasons, chickens feed at concentrated times. Chain feed systems quickly deliver feed throughout the shed, reducing competition for food between stronger and weaker chickens.
3. Adaptable to high humidity environments. Chain feed troughs are easy to inspect and clean daily, and are less prone to feed clumping than some disc systems.
4. Relatively simple maintenance. The chain, corner pulleys, and drive unit have mature structures, and local workers can handle common malfunctions after training.
We reviewed Retech’s project cases in Africa and Asia and requested spare parts lists, installation plans, and training programs. Ultimately, Retech received the highest overall score in terms of cost-effectiveness, after-sales response, and the maturity of its chain feed system.
